Mathway App

I went a little out on a limb to find my resource this week. Many classrooms have issues with technology, so I found my resource in the app store. The more productive ways we can use technology in the classroom, hopefully the more our students will use it well. This is an app that allows you to enter in a problem and it will give you the explanation of how to work it out. Many parents have a hard time helping their students, so this might be a good way to help students with homework help. Each problem that is solved gives detailed steps, this provides a reading challenge to students. However, I read through many of their sample responses and they only give the necessary information. This, along with the multimodal aspect of viewing pictures, text and math symbols on an app all provide challenging reading skills for math students.

  1. I think this app is super cool in the way that it can help students learn how to math problems by showing them the steps. I do think it could pose a problem for students. They may rely on the app to get them answers for their homework and not actually do it themselves. I think it would be interesting to try to find a balance for making it a useful tool in the classroom but not a crutch.
